Go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day — including weekends. This consistency is the foundation of good sleep. Your circadian rhythm is a biological clock that regulates sleep hormones, body temperature, and dozens of other processes. Irregular sleep schedules throw it out of sync.

Manage Light Exposure

Get bright light exposure within an hour of waking — ideally sunlight, but a bright light lamp works. Avoid bright and blue light for 1–2 hours before bed. Light is the primary signal your brain uses to calibrate when to release melatonin.

Temperature Matters

Your core body temperature needs to drop by 1–3°F to initiate sleep. Keep your bedroom between 65–68°F. A warm shower 1–2 hours before bed paradoxically helps — the subsequent cooling mimics the natural drop that triggers sleep.

Alcohol and Sleep Quality
